Political reconciliation is often understood in the sense of Hegel as a rational process in which different interests can be eliminated through progressive enlightenment. The biblical term "reconciliation" (katallagê/reconciliatio) also presupposes an idea of peace mediation, but it emphasizes the symbolic power of gifts and the recognition of the mediator. Based on these historical models, the lecture will discuss some contemporary political and ideological conflicts and their proposed solutions.
