"The Inner Light" (documentary, Germany 2019)
As part of the events marking World Alzheimer’s Day and Dementia Awareness Week
What remains of a life that unfolds solely in the here and now? At a care home in Stuttgart, documentary filmmaker Stefan Sick observes people with dementia going about their daily routines in what is, in fact, an ideal care setting.
Dementia – a diagnosis that changes everything for those affected and their families. Accepting the condition seems just as difficult as knowing how to deal with it appropriately. But perhaps it is more about empathy than understanding? Through observation, *DAS INNERE LEUCHTEN* explores the everyday lives of people with dementia in a care home and builds a strong emotional connection with them. The film offers a poetic interpretation of this unique condition and aims to help alleviate fears surrounding dementia and to accept each individual as a human being.
