One, two, twenty before the end (1H22 AVANT LA FIN)

A comedy by Matthieu Delaporte, translated into German by Georg Holzer

“Right then. We’ll kill me, and then we’ll see.” Just as inconspicuously and unobtrusively as he has lived, so he wants to leave this world. The flat is perfectly tidy; his electricity contract and home contents insurance have been cancelled. Now all Bernhard has to do is jump from the fourth floor to leave his unfulfilled existence behind him. He’s already got one foot on the windowsill – when there’s a knock at the door and, moments later, a man stands in the living room with a gun drawn, ready to shoot Bernhard. But instead of simply getting the job done straight away, they strike up a conversation. In the face of death, their most personal secrets are revealed, existential questions about life are pondered, and a verbal battle over life and death ensues. Just as it becomes clear that the two have far more in common than they realised, the stranger reveals his true identity. But then events come thick and fast, and Bernhard summons all his courage to save Clara, the neighbour he has secretly adored – even though death has long since arrived on the scene.

What makes life worth living? What is worth living for? The latest comedy by Matthieu Delaporte – who previously delighted audiences worldwide and at the Theater Vorpommern with the play *The First Name*, co-written with Alexandre de la Patellière – is a dazzling display of verbal wit, unexpected twists and black humour.
