Czech independent literature and culture in the Samizdat era
Public evening lecture by PhDr. Zbyněk Fišer, PhD (Masaryk University, Brno, Institute of Czech Literature)
This lecture will present the key trends in research into the publication opportunities for unofficial literature, journalism, academia and the arts in Czechoslovakia during the communist era. Selected examples will be used to illustrate the various forms of samizdat. The focus is on periodicals and publications from Moravia in the 1980s.
Zbyněk Fišer is a lecturer at the Institute of Czech Literature, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic). In addition to contemporary Czech literature, he specialises in the theory and pedagogy of creative writing and translation studies. He has published the monographs *Tvůrčí psaní* (2001, *Creative Writing*) and *Překlad jako kreativní proces* (2009, *Translation as a Creative Process*). He also publishes poetry (Někde za Truchlovem [Somewhere in the Valley of Sorrow], 2014; Kikikarantkatr aneb Gazanie 2030, 2022).
