Elizabeth on Rügen
Concert reading by the theatre Nordnordost
On Saturday, 24 October 2026, the Förderverein will present a guest performance by the Theater Nordnordost in the castle chapel in Ludwigsburg: the concert reading "Elizabeth on Rügen".
Elizabeth von Arnim (1866 - 1941) wrote one of the most famous Rügen travel novels, "Elizabeth on Rügen". In her autobiographical novel, the author describes her "road trip" as a woman travelling alone across Rügen shortly before the turn of the century. With a sharp pen and affectionate irony, she addresses highly topical themes in her travelogue: the realities and dreams of women, the rediscovery of nature by man, the beginning of tourism on Rügen and, of course, love with all its trials and tribulations.
As if in passing, Elizabeth describes the island of Rügen, the tourists and the locals she encounters in the places she visits on her journey, including the Baltic Sea resorts of Göhren, Sellin, Baabe, Binz, the Jasmund National Park, the chalk cliffs, Lauterbach, Mönchgut and Wittow and the islands of Vilm and Hiddensee.
In this reading - acting - concert, the actress Christina Kraft from the island of Rügen brings the characters of the novel to life. She will be accompanied by the pianist Alexander Girod from Greifswald, who will bring over 100 years of music history to life with virtuosity: From classical to jazz to modern, you will hear many well-known and unknown pieces of music. And - in keeping with the basic tone of the book - mainly by female composers and musicians.
Tickets cost 15 euros (concessions: 10 euros) and are available at the box office. Reservations can be made via the office of the Förderverein.
By the way: one hour before the start of the event, the Friends' Association will be selling coffee and cake in the clubhouse next to the castle.
