Every first weekend in July since 1981, jazz enthusiasts from all over Germany and beyond have been gathering for the Eldena Jazz Evenings at the Eldena monastery ruins in Greifswald. Set against the backdrop of this symbol of German Romanticism, the festival showcases international stars and established artists from the German jazz scene, as well as up-and-coming acts from Germany and abroad. Enjoy two evenings, each featuring three concerts, in a unique atmosphere. “The concert nights begin in the evening sun, which makes the brick-red walls of the open-air concert space – with its roof open to the sky – glow almost magically” (Heti Brunzel/NDR) and end shortly before midnight amidst the illuminated walls beneath the night sky.
The concerts will go ahead even if it rains. Please do not open umbrellas in the audience during the concerts – rain ponchos are available at the CD stall for €1.50, whilst stocks last. This ensures that the people behind you can also see the stage and do not get water from the umbrellas on their knees.
The box office opens at 6.15 pm each evening | Starts at 7.00 pm
The Eldenaer Jazz Evenings are held with the kind support of Norddeutscher Rundfunk – Cultural Promotion Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Sparkasse Vorpommern and Stadtwerke Greifswald. NDR Kultur is the festival’s media partner and records the concerts for radio broadcast.
We would like to thank our sponsors and supporters, without whose support the Eldenaer Jazz Evenings could not take place in this form.
