Dancing on the volcano. Resistant punk women in the GDR
Multimedia reading with protagonist Dana and author Geralf Pochop.
"Being punk was a provocation in itself," says Nancy, one of 23 women who report on their family circumstances, childhood and youth, their punk time and the associated repression in the book "Tanz auf dem Vulkan. Widerständige Punk-Frauen in der DDR" about their family circumstances, childhood and youth, their punk time and the associated repression. "But walking around like that as a girl was probably a double breach of taboo, something of a sacrilege in the GDR's understanding of real socialism."
In a multimedia reading, Dana, a protagonist of the GDR punk scene, together with the book author Geralf Pochop, presents a piece of GDR history that has hardly been dealt with so far, based on her experiences as a resistant punk woman in the GDR.
Dana was the first punk girl in Aschersleben. She wrote poems and copied the banned book "1984" on a typewriter at the age of 13 in the GDR. Because of her punk affiliation, she came into conflict with the state and her education was blocked. In the mid-1980s, she moved to Halle, played in the GDR's only all-girl punk band "Die Rote Zora" and became involved in the Christuskirche, which was a place of resistance at the time.
Geralf Pochop came into conflict with the state as a squatter, East German punk and conscientious objector. In 1983, he was arrested for the first time during an attempt to form a human chain between the Soviet and US embassies. In 1987 he was arrested again and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment in a fictitious trial. In 1989, he travelled to West Germany as part of the Stasi actions "Symbol 89" and "Carnation 89". Since his rehabilitation and recognition as a political prisoner of the GDR, he has been working intensively on the GDR past.
