A Common Room in a changing world

Exhibition of the Danish Embassy on the Nordic Sound

Today, many people tend to withdraw into their own bubble. Society is becoming increasingly individualised. But where is the space for dialogue, debate and common agreement? For all the things we need to get things done - and to find support and cohesion!

In the exhibition "A Common Room in a Changing World", the Danish Embassy presents lively and open communities in Denmark. Communities that are particularly popular with young people - offline, uncomplicated and often free of charge.

We visit the popular Danish political festivals, the so-called "Folkemøder" ("People's Meetings"), where thousands of people chat, celebrate and discuss with politicians every year. We take a look behind the scenes of the popular Danish "folk high schools", which have been working to educate all levels of society since the 1840s. We invite you to a "Folkehus" in a former church, where there is daily table tennis, coffee, debates and a communal dinner. We take you to the "Village of 2025". And we visit "Vores Sted" ("Our Place"), where it is mainly young people who are in charge - and yet they are also very keen to listen.

Whether small or large, permanent or spontaneous, in the capital or in the provinces - these places have something in common: openness, the joy of discussion and commitment. Here you can feel how community is created and why it is so important for our society. Because where people meet, trust grows - and that is precisely what strengthens democracy. Especially now, when it is facing major challenges in Denmark and Europe.

The exhibition is on display until 28 May, open Mon-Fri 12-5pm. Free admission
Accompanying programme: 8.5. screen printing in the exhibition, offers for youth groups on request
