4th chamber concert
Pure cello - solo works from Bach to the present day
One instrument, infinite worlds of sound: Issei Hiramoto presents music from two eras on the cello - from baroque elegance to poetic compositions of the 20th century.
Johann Sebastian Bach's luminous Cello Suites No. 1 in G major and No. 5 in C minor, milestones in the repertoire, form the framework. In between, Joseph Dall'Abaco's virtuoso Capricci (No. 9 in C major, No. 5 in B flat major and No. 11 in F major), the touching Catalan folk song "El cant dels ocells" ("The Song of the Birds") in the arrangement by Pablo Casals and Sally Beamish and Toshirō Mayuzumi's colourful "Bunraku" will be heard. Imogen Holst's "Poco Adagio" from "The Fall of the Leaf" sets a quietly poetic accent.
A programme of rare diversity that unites music from different centuries, cultures and styles - and brings the cello to life in all its depth, elegance and passion.
The concert has an interval.
