Stars are part of Christmas - as twinkling lights in the sky, as decorations on the Christmas tree and as inspiration for songs. The Gospel of Matthew mentions a special star that leads three astrologers to the baby Jesus. At the time of the birth of Jesus Christ, a rare and remarkable astronomical event occurred: The two largest known planets appeared particularly close together in the sky. This event later served as a reference point for our calendar.
In his lecture, Tilman Reinecke will talk about the stellar event and explain its connection to Christmas and biblical history. Admission free.
