Gute wissenschaftliche Praxis trotz schlechter wissenschaftlicher Bedingungen?
Public evening lecture by Dr. Michael G. Schöner (University of Greifswald) as part of the lecture series "Zwischen Erkenntnis und Wirkung" of the Junges Kolleg Greifswald
"Scientific integrity forms the basis of trustworthy science", states the preamble to the DFG guidelines for safeguarding good scientific practice. But what if questionable practices prevail even within the scientific community? For example, if the doctoral supervisor demands unethical behavior that clearly contradicts good scientific practice? If opposing these practices means the end of your own academic career? How do I escape this dilemma? Using historical examples of scientific misconduct, Michael Schöner will explain problems and present possible strategies and points of contact that can provide support in such situations.
Michael Schöner studied German, history, biology and philosophy and holds a doctorate in biology. He is Co-Head of Staff at the Center for Academic and Digital Skills at the University of Greifswald, where he is responsible for the Graduate Academy and University Didactics. Michael Schöner is also a certified trainer for good scientific practice (CoachInScience; Virt2ue), conflict mediator and anti-discrimination officer. He is committed to good conditions during and after the doctorate and to diversity-sensitive, differentiating and learner-centered teaching. He regularly advises doctoral candidates on supervision problems and questions of good scientific practice.
