Ein Nachmittag zu Ehren von Sophia Hedwig
Guided tour of the castle - coffee break - reading
The "Schlösserherbst" begins at Ludwigsburg Palace and Manor on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with a special kick-off event. Under the title "An afternoon in honor of Sophia Hedwig", the association will pay tribute from 2 p.m. to the woman to whom the village of Ludwigsburg (near Greifswald) owes its famous monument and its name. In October 1577, Sophia Hedwig (1561-1631), a Princess of Brunswick-Lüneburg by birth, married the Duke of Pomerania-Wolgast, Ernst Ludwig. In 1586, the duke gave his wife the village of Darsim (now Ludwigsburg) and ordered her to have a palace built there.
On October 25, 2025, a guided tour of the castle begins at 2 p.m. with Gunnar Peters, Chairman of the Friends' Association. During the tour of the house built for Sophia Hedwig, Peters will talk about the results of the building research that the first construction phase, which was completed this year under the direction of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, has brought to light.
After a coffee break, the afternoon dedicated to Sophia Hedwig will continue at 4 p.m. in the castle chapel with the literary program "To be or to be a woman - that is the question here!" The actresses Anke Neubauer and Elke Zeh will read diary entries, letters and poems by famous, courageous and creative women: from Sophia Hedwig to Marie Curie and Frida Kahlo.
Admission to the castle tour and reading is free - donations for the Friends of the Castle and the two artists are requested. Registration is not required. Catering will be provided by the association's kitchen from 1.00 pm.
