KI-basierte Apps zur gesundheitlichen Diagnose. Politiken der Klassifikation zwischen Objektivierung und Diskriminierung
Public digital evening lecture by Dr. Dr. h. c. Corinna Bath (University of Duisburg-Essen)
Public digital evening lecture by Dr. Dr. h. c. Corinna Bath (University of Duisburg-Essen, Head of the Coordination and Research Office of the Women's and Gender Studies Network) as part of the lecture series "Data Feminism - Perspectives from Culture, Medicine & Computer Science" of the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies
Classifications such as healthy/sick are the basis of medical diagnoses and at the same time a prerequisite for informatic modeling. What happens when the politics of classification in medicine intertwine with those of informatics, as in AI-based apps for health diagnosis? Using the results of a praxeological-empirical research project on the development and use of these apps as an example, I would like to discuss how classifications not only contribute to objectification and discrimination, but also reveal ambiguity, gaps and contradictions that require adaptation work from developers and users.
Corinna Bath holds a degree in mathematics, a doctorate in computer science and is a gender and STS researcher. In 2022, she received an honorary doctorate from TU Graz for her commitment to integrating gender studies into the technical sciences. She recently became head of the Coordination and Research Center for Women's and Gender Studies NRW at the University of Duisburg-Essen. As a professor at the TU Braunschweig (2012-2022), she developed the ongoing research project "Sociotechnical Practices of Objectivation" with Prof. Silja Samerski (HS Emden/Leer).
