Koeppentage 2025 - Vernissage "Wolfgang Koeppen und das Feuilleton"
An exhibition from the Wolfgang Koeppen Archive
Before his literary breakthrough in the 1950s with his "Trilogy of Failure", Wolfgang Koeppen was a hard-working feature writer. In the early 1930s, his "most productive period", Koeppen was employed by the Berliner Börsen-Courier and lived and worked in Berlin.
With the increasing influence of the National Socialists, the German newspaper industry came under pressure and was increasingly brought into line. Wolfgang Koep-pen also published texts during this time that appeared to be politically ingratiating. An accusation that Koeppen spent the rest of his life trying to refute.
The exhibition examines Koeppen's feuilleton texts and also takes a critical look at those written in 1932/33. Koeppen's first articles in the Greifswald newspaper are shown and the history of the Greifswald newspaper industry is surveyed. The exhibition also offers insights into Koeppen's time at the Berliner Börsen-Courier and beyond with private photographs. A wide selection of the more than 500 texts published in newspapers and magazines will be on display and available to read.
