775 Jahre Greifswald: Robert Conrad aus Greifswald + in Berlin und der Welt

Photo exhibition in memory of Robert Conrad

Two years after the sudden death of photographer Robert Conrad (1962-2023), we want to commemorate him with two exhibitions in Greifswald.
You are cordially invited to join us on Sunday, May 18, for guided tours and discussions. We will start at 3 p.m. in the Koeppenhaus and then arrive together at 4 p.m. in St. Marien.

Robert Conrad grew up in Greifswald and discovered his love of architecture and photography here. He began documenting the changes to the cityscape back in the 1980s. Away from the state-organized cultural scene, he and his friends also organized ESG events, readings and unauthorized rock and punk concerts in demolished buildings and backyards in Greifswald. He often showed his slides and photographs of the disappearance of Greifswald's old town.

Around 60 photographic works illustrate central aspects of his work in a joint exhibition in St. Marien and the Koeppenhaus. Beginning with early works in St. Marien from Greifswald in the 1980s, the exhibition in the Koeppenhaus documents Conrad's life from the late GDR regime, from the Wall in Berlin to his worldwide travels to exciting architecture in the new world that was now accessible to him after the Wall came down.

The exhibition is a cooperation between the Koeppenhaus, St. Marien Greifswald and the Robert Havemann Society with the support of Margrit Kühl and many of Robert Conrad's companions.
