Geschlecht in der Medizin – Interdisziplinäre Perspektiven
Public panel discussion as part of the "Studium universale" event series with Professor Dr. Mathias Grote (Greifswald), Dr. Rebecca Sänger (Greifswald) and Dr. Birgit Stammberger (Lübeck)
The event is dedicated to the role of gender in medicine and combines historical, clinical and critical approaches. From the history of knowledge, historical developments are examined that still shape medical practice today. A focus on gender-sensitive orthopaedics shows the relevance of individual treatment approaches, while feminist critique of science questions normative structures and opens up new perspectives.
Mathias Grote studied philosophy and biology at Humboldt University in Berlin and completed his doctorate in microbiology. He switched to the history of science and habilitated at the Institute of History at HU Berlin. Since 2023, he has been Heisenberg Professor for the History of Knowledge at the University of Greifswald. In the winter semester 2021/22 he was Junior Fellow at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald.
Rebecca Sänger is a junior doctor and research associate at the University Medical Center Greifswald. She specializes in sports orthopaedics, knee joint preservation surgery and foot and ankle surgery. She also has a clinical and scientific focus on gender-specific medicine.
Birgit Stammberger is a research associate at the University of Lübeck. Her research focuses on feminist science studies, gender studies and body history. She heads the sub-project "Bringing Gender into Science and Back!" in the Collaborative Research Center 1665 "Sex diversity" and is co-spokesperson of the CRC's integrated research training group.
