Neurorehabilitation – a global perspective

Öffentliche Podiumsdiskussion mit Mitgliedern der World Federation for Neurorehabillitation im Rahmen der „VI. Summer School Neurorehabilitation”

mit Dr. Maria Alejandra Spir Brunal, M.D. (Universidad de Antioquia, España), Professorin Dr. Ilse Lamers (Universiteit Hasselt), Professor Dr. Mayowa Owolabi (University of Ibadan, Nigeria), Dr. Abhishek Srivastava, M.D. (Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, India) und Dr. Sabahat Wasti, M.D. (Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi)

Neurological conditions are amongst the most frequent causes of disabilities, world-wide. Neurorehabilitation is a branch of medicine that is delivered within a multidisciplinary setting to promote functioning and well-being of individuals suffering from disabling neurological conditions, both by preventing neuro-disabilities early after disease onset and/or by ameliorating its everyday life consequences with an individualised patient-centred goal-oriented team approach. Multiple medical disciplines are involved in delivering neurorehabilitation. While there are major shortages of services in low- and middle-income countries, neuro-rehabilitation services are limited even in high-income countries.
In this session a panel of experts from the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation will give insights into:

The cultural background for neurorehabilitation in their countries
The current general set-up of the healthcare system for neurorehabilitation
Health economics for neurorehabilitation
The education system for neurorehabilitation healthcare professionals.

Attendees from around the world are invited to share their views and experience and help to delineate ways to move forward.
