Intercultural Sewing Café: Patchwork Workshop – An Introduction to the Cathedral Window Technique
The workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. Even without a sewing machine, you’ll end up with a lovely design to take home – plus instructions.
Wednesday 30 September 2026, 3.00 pm – 5.30 pm
This workshop introduces participants to the ‘cathedral window’ patchwork technique, inspired by the new stained-glass window in St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Participants will learn about the history and symbolism of the technique, explore light, colour and form, and translate these impressions into textile works. The method is similar to origami, as fabric is folded and worked by hand – without a sewing machine. The workshop will cover basic folding techniques, simple hand stitches and how to design your own small pattern. The course will be held in German and Ukrainian.
