Enemy lists, weapons, police officers and the AfD
The Nordkreuz complex and the lessons it teaches.
The Nordkreuz complex is one of the most significant cases of militant right-wing extremism in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. However, numerous investigations came to nothing, leaving many questions unanswered. The final report of the NSU II/Right-wing Extremism Select Committee now provides a comprehensive parliamentary review that sheds new light on the network and reveals new connections – the political links between individual actors and the AfD, the way in which state authorities dealt with the complex, and the limitations of criminal and administrative investigations.
The lecture presents the committee’s key findings and examines what conclusions can be drawn from them regarding how to deal with militant right-wing networks and how to foster a vigilant democratic civil society.
Peter Madjarov, the speaker, is a lawyer and, as an adviser to the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group in the state parliament, contributed to the meetings of the ‘NSU II/Right-wing Extremism’ Committee of Inquiry and to its final report.
