Bicycle Cinema – Cinema powered by muscle power

As part of European Mobility Week, the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald is bringing the bicycle cinema to the Heineschuppen at the Museumswerft. What makes this special is that the electricity needed for the projector and speakers isn’t drawn from the mains, but is generated by the visitors themselves – by cycling together.

A varied programme of international short films from the genres of documentary, animation and fiction will be screened. The films explore issues surrounding sustainability, mobility and collective action in an entertaining and inspiring way: How can dreams achieve great things if we dare to stand up for them together, and can elephants really ride bicycles? How can mobility be sustainable and fun at the same time?

Anyone who wishes to can get on the pedals themselves and experience what it’s like to be in a cinema powered entirely by muscle power.

Date: Friday, 18 September 2026, 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm
Venue: Heineschuppen at the Museumswerft, Salinenstraße 20, Greifswald
