Pallas Nordica – A musical portrait of Queen Christina of Sweden

A musical portrait of Queen Christina of Sweden at Benz Church: the award-winning NeoBarock ensemble and actress Alexandra Lowygina, featuring music, letters and diaries.

She ascended the throne young, and she abdicated young: Christina of Sweden, who was also the sovereign of Usedom for a few years, was born exactly 400 years ago. Scholars and diplomats compared her to Pallas Athena, the goddess of wisdom – she could ride and fence, was well-versed in the sciences and loved music.

After her abdication, she turned her Palazzo Riario in Rome into a musical centre of Europe; Arcangelo Corelli joined her court orchestra in 1677 and dedicated his Opus 1 to her. A vivid musical portrait emerges from her own letters, diaries, diplomatic records and the music she herself listened to.

It is brought to life by the multi-award-winning ensemble NeoBarock, conducted by Maren Ries, and the actress Alexandra Lowygina – Baroque music and history merge in the atmospheric church at Benz.
