Franz Ensemble – Swedish Serenade (chamber concert)

The Franz Ensemble, winner of the OPUS Klassik award, will perform a Swedish serenade centred on Beethoven and the ‘Swedish Beethoven’, Joachim Nicolas Eggert, at the Usedom Music Festival in Heringsdorf Church.

A fascinating link between Vorpommern and Sweden: the composer Joachim Nicolas Eggert was born on Rügen in 1779 and served as court conductor to the King of Sweden in Stockholm from 1807 to 1812. One might call him a ‘Swedish Beethoven’, as he was the first to perform Beethoven’s symphonies in Sweden – almost simultaneously with Vienna, where the Fifth was premiered in 1808.

The excellent Franz Ensemble, named after Franz Schubert and awarded the OPUS Klassik prize for its recordings of rediscovered chamber music, brings this music to life brilliantly – in a Swedish serenade centred on Beethoven that is as magnificent as it is entertaining.

Chamber music at its finest in the atmospheric church at Seebad Heringsdorf.
