Christina Nilsson – Sweden’s new voice

Sweden’s acclaimed opera singer Christina Nilsson – who has performed at Bayreuth and the Met – will be singing songs from her homeland, as well as works by Sibelius and Richard Strauss, at the Usedom Music Festival in Heringsdorf Church.

An international opera star is visiting Usedom: soprano Christina Nilsson is regarded as Sweden’s great new voice. At the Bayreuth Festival, she made her debut in roles including Elisabeth in *Tannhäuser*; in New York, she sang the title role in *Aida* at the Metropolitan Opera – and the Swedish government awarded her the Musikexportpriset.

The Wagner singer is almost a neighbour: she hails from Ystad, which the ferry from Swinemünde sails to. She brings with her romantic songs from her homeland, Swedish melodies of love and landscape, music by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, and rousing miniatures full of joie de vivre by Richard Strauss.

A first-class evening of opera in the atmospheric church at Seebad Heringsdorf.
