‘Sweden’s Mozart’: Pianist Dmitry Ablogin will perform piano sonatas by Joseph Martin Kraus, Haydn and Mozart at the village church in Morgenitz – and talk about the life of Gustav III’s court conductor.

Joseph Martin Kraus was born in the same year as Mozart, 1756. Originally from Miltenberg am Main, he moved to Stockholm at a young age to take up the post of Kapellmeister at the court of King Gustav III of Sweden. Whilst travelling through Europe, he met Joseph Haydn in Vienna, who held his young colleague in the highest regard.

Dmitry Ablogin is a master of piano music in this classical style – its wit, its sensitivity and its spirit of improvisation. In conversation with festival programme director Jan Brachmann, he also recounts the unusual life story of the ‘Swedish Mozart’, who died in Stockholm in 1792, just one year after Mozart.
