Childhood Summers – A Musical Reading
A musical reading at the 2026 Usedom Music Festival in the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio: Ingmar Bergman’s novel *Sunday’s Children*, accompanied by late Romantic piano music from Sweden.
Ingmar Bergman, honoured in Cannes in 1997 as the ‘Greatest Film Director of All Time’, wrote his novel *Sunday’s Children* in 1990, set in the summer of 1926 and centring on his parents’ turbulent relationship – told from his own perspective as an eight-year-old boy. At the 2026 Usedom Music Festival, this autobiographical material will be brought to life in a musical reading at the idyllic Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio.
Set to late-Romantic piano music from Sweden, the atmosphere of a summer landscape, church services and a traditional country cottage unfolds. An atmospheric matinee at one of the island’s most beautiful art venues.
