Medieval Marian hymns at the Protestant Church in Mellenthin: Every Hanseatic city has a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, as she is regarded as the patron saint of seafarers. Known as ‘Stella Maris’, the ‘Star of the Sea’, she was invoked for help by the seafarers of Europe during the Middle Ages.

With Swedish folk melodies and medieval chants, Helena Ek – a sought-after singer on the Swedish early music scene who performs with the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble – and Anna Maria Friman, co-founder of Trio Mediæval, which records for ECM Records, take the audience on a journey across the seas of Europe.
