Swedish Baroque – Minstrels & Courtiers
Usedom Music Festival 2026 at the Protestant Church in Liepe: Ida Meidell (baroque violin) and Johan Hedin (nyckelharpa) explore the sounds of Swedish minstrels and courtly baroque music.
Swedish folk magic in one of Usedom’s oldest churches: at the Protestant Church in Liepe, Ida Meidell and Johan Hedin bring the dazzling world of the minstrels and courtiers of the 17th and 18th centuries back to life. The Baroque violin meets the nyckelharpa – a Swedish keyed fiddle whose sound seems to drift in from another era.
Both musicians have been moving with ease between historical performance practice and Swedish folk music for years: Ida Meidell performs with leading European Baroque ensembles, whilst Johan Hedin is regarded as one of the most influential nyckelharpa players of our time. They made their debut as a duo in 2019 at the Korrö Folk Festival.
An intimate afternoon full of resonances between the Swedish tradition of folk music and European Baroque music – moving and unique.
Venue: Liepe Evangelical Church, Triftstraße 5, 17406 Liepe
