Anna Cinderella – Last Fashion
Opening of FANTAKEL – the 18th Puppet Theatre Festival in Greifswald
Jana Sonnenberg & Robert Richter, ages 9 and up
Anna loves sewing. But most of the time she has to clean, tidy up or do the washing, says her stepmother, Beatrix von Asche. She and her daughters, Amy and Astrid, on the other hand, order clothes every day and have Anna send everything back.
At last! An invitation to the prince’s ball flutters into the house. Of course, this calls for the perfect outfit. Her father drives straight back into town to buy everything they’ve asked for. There’s no doubt about it – one of the stepsisters will marry the prince.
Will Anna be allowed to go to the ball too?
The Grimm fairy tale is retold here with a focus on fashion, beauty and self-improvement – elements already present in the original.
What does it take to belong to a certain social circle? How do you relate to those around you? Do you actually have to go along with all of this?
‘Anna Aschenputtel’ takes a humorous yet serious look – with plenty of interactive ideas – at the characters in the Asche patchwork family: those who have uncritically succumbed to the spirit of the times and consumerism; the one who has remained silent for far too long; and the one who breaks free from this construct.
In doing so, the fairy-tale character and magic are preserved and gently transposed into the present day.
