America@250: What is there to celebrate?
To mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, students at the University of Greifswald are inviting you to an interactive project day focussing on US history, pop culture and current challenges.
On 4 July, the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence. But what does this anniversary mean today? What historical events, cultural influences and social challenges characterise the USA - and what is there actually to celebrate?
Bachelor's students of English/American Studies at the University of Greifswald have spent a year studying these questions and are now inviting you to an interactive project day. Under the motto "What's to celebrate?", they will present their individual projects and offer visitors the opportunity to discover American history and culture in a creative and interactive way.
You can look forward to a variety of stations, exhibitions and hands-on activities: Experience an interactive journey through American history, solve puzzles about the Declaration of Independence or explore the myths of US history.
If you want to get creative yourself, you can take part in various workshops, design memorabilia or contribute your own thoughts on the "American Dream" and the USA of today.
In addition, the student projects provide insights into different facets of American culture and society - from historical and ethnic holidays, pop culture and sport to current political and social debates.
The event is aimed at all interested parties - no prior knowledge is required.
We look forward to an open, respectful and curious exchange about the past, present and future of the USA.
Admission is free, registration is not required.
