The rose garden at St John's Monastery in Stralsund
Guided tour with Dagmar Fromme | Meeting point: St John's Monastery Stralsund | Participation: 9 euros
"What gives the world its value are places where it reveals its uniqueness."
Oliver Schwarzmann
One of these special places within Stralsund's old town is St John's Monastery.
Hidden behind thick brick walls is the rose garden, which is repeatedly described in contemporary accounts as one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in the city.
After this part of the monastery had also lain dormant for many years, an initiative by the citizens' committee "Rettet die Altstadt Stralsund" e.V. and landscape architect Silke van Ackeren began to breathe life back into this garden in 2024. This has brought an almost forgotten place back into people's consciousness.
Tour guide Dagmar Fromme will guide you through the monastery courtyards of St John's Monastery and introduce you to the rose garden, which is still closed to the public, and its new planting.
Organiser: Stralsunder Akademie für Garten- und Landschaftskultur
