Contested political neutrality in education and science / Lecture by Prof Dr Hubertus Buchstein
Lecture series on the campaign "Universities show attitude!": What is neutral? Attitude in the crisis!
For some years now, universities and schools have come under political pressure from various sides. On the one hand, science and education should be politically neutral; on the other, they are expected to teach and defend democratic values. What is behind the complaints about an alleged lack of political neutrality at universities and schools? What exactly does political neutrality mean in the context of science and education? How neutral can the university be when the foundations of academic freedom are under attack?
