Uni im Rathaus: Bewahren – Erschließen – Benutzen. Das Archiv als Forschungsstätte und Gedächtnis der Universität
Referentin: Dr. Elisabeth Heigl (Universitätsarchiv)
The University of Greifswald Archives are as old as the university itself. Since 1456, the university’s documents, records, official registers, minutes, maps and building plans, photographs and much more have been preserved and made accessible here. Together, we’ll take a look at the history and behind the scenes of the University Archives and learn about the work of the archivists: how do the records end up in the archives and what happens to them there? Who is allowed to carry out research in the archive and what can be found there? Where does the ‘paper fish’ swim and how long does a floppy disc last? These and other questions will be raised during the talk to illustrate, using examples, how the archive functions as the university’s memory and research centre.
Since 2004, as part of the ‘University at the Town Hall’ lecture series, academics from the University of Greifswald have been presenting their research projects in the Town Hall’s Citizens’ Hall. The aim of the lecture series is to give the general public an insight into the diverse research carried out across the university’s five faculties. Admission is free.
