6th Philharmonic Concert
With works by Strauss, von Weber and Raff
A journey through the soundscapes of German Romanticism: between nature poetry, forest mysticism and orchestral fantasy, this concert unfolds a colourful panorama full of atmosphere and depth. The concert opens with Weber's overture to "Oberon" - marking the 200th anniversary of the composer's death and the 200th anniversary of its premiere - a musical enchantment between fairies, heroic legends and oriental exoticism, which sets the tone for the evening with its characteristic horn melody and fine orchestration. Richard Strauss' 2nd Horn Concerto is a late masterpiece by the composer, a sonorous homage to the horn, which has accompanied Strauss since childhood. The evening concludes with Joachim Raff's 3rd Symphony, whose epithet is the programme. It transports the listener to a poetic forest landscape full of plays of light, mysterious moods and romantic tone colours - an impressive painting of nature in sound.
