Mental illness theme evening
"Pictures of Your Great Love" by Wolfgang Herrndorf tells the story of how Isa (we know her from Herrndorf's novel "Tschick") escapes from a psychiatric ward and seeks her very own path through the fringes of our society, finding wonderful images of her own for her perception. Her view is characterised by a love of the unfathomable, beyond the norm, of the somewhat "crazy"...
On this occasion, the themed evening "Mental Illness" will take place in the Stadthalle in Greifswald to give people with experience of psychiatry, psychiatric and social institutions and self-help groups a voice, to educate, to invite people to exchange ideas and to present support services. We are concerned with both individual and social perspectives.
In the search for how understanding and inclusion can succeed, "Images of Your Great Love" offers us a wonderful poetic horizon. With Isa, we ask ourselves questions such as "what is "normal"?", "how "individualistic" can I be?", "how can I express my perception?", "how can I understand that of others?".
In doing so, we also seek love's gaze on the unusual, abysmal, unfortunately often ignored images of our lives.
