The Florence Green bookshop
Village cinema in Krebsow
Florence Green is a widowed woman who moves to the small seaside town of Hardborough in the east of England in the late 1950s. Having lost her husband, with whom she shared a love of literature of all kinds, at an early age, she wants to realise her dream and decides to open a small bookshop to rouse the other inhabitants of the sleepy little town from their lethargy with exciting and interesting stories. At first her plan works, the books she sells are well received everywhere and even the reclusive, solitary Mr Brundish takes a liking to the new bookshop and its owner. But then the influential Violet Gamart, one of the most respected people in Hardborough, causes trouble and fears losing control of the town and its inhabitants ...
