Det sidste paradis på jord - The Last Paradise on Earth
Film - In the original Faroese with English subtitles.
Kári lives on a remote island in the Faroe Islands, one of the smallest countries in the world. Since the death of his mother, he has stoically kept the household together: During the day he works at the machine in the fish factory, which is the only employer on the island, and in the evening he looks after his father and his younger sister Silja, who is slipping away from him more and more. When dwindling fish stocks in the increasingly warm sea mean that the factory is on the brink of closure, Kári's everyday life falls apart. Friends sign on with trawlers or, like his school friend Elin, rave about studying art in Paris. A tender intimacy flickers between her and Kári. Should he go with her and follow his own dreams for the first time? His own dreams? He hardly knows what they might look like. For Kári, the island is "the last paradise on earth". Perhaps it would be right to stay and face the challenges?
Shot on the Faroe island of Suðuroy, the film tells the story of growing up between responsibility, climate change and the question of one's own path.
In the original Faroese language with English subtitles.
