Fin whale skeleton at eye level: information stand at the MEERESMUSEUM

Meet the 15 metre long fin whale skeleton at eye level and learn interesting facts about one of the most famous exhibits in the MEERESMUSEUM.

Like all the other exhibits, the fin whale skeleton in the choir of the Katharinenhalle requires regular cleaning. To this end, the one-tonne skeleton will be lowered from a lofty height on 8 April. On this day, you will have the very rare opportunity to view the fin whale bones at eye level and up close.

At an information stand next to the skeleton from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can also learn exciting facts about the stranding of the fin whale exactly 201 years ago, the recovery of the carcass for scientific purposes and the history of the skeleton in the Katharinenhalle. You can also marvel at various tactile objects and original specimens of whales, including a sperm whale tooth and a fin whale baleen.
