The Stralsund city forest
Guided tour with Thomas Struwe | Meeting point: Stralsund, Moorteichbrücke/Friedrich-Engels-Straße, Participation: 9 euros
The Stralsund city forest - for the citizens of Stralsund, this is the city forest on the moor pond. However, as the Hanseatic city owns a lot more forest, there has been a city forester since spring 2020. Thomas Struwe is responsible for the maintenance, development and management of the current 1260 hectares of forest.
The municipal forest is spread over a wide area from Arkona to Zarrendorf and extends across the islands of Rügen, Ummanz and Hiddensee. 460 hectares are located on the mainland in and around the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.
More forest is constantly being added through afforestation. One of the focal points of his first years as town forester is to make Stralsund's forests more accessible. You can find out exactly what this looks like and what other exciting things there are to report about the city forest on a walk through well-known and rather unknown areas of the city forest by the moor pond.
