THE OUTRUN, film drama by Nora Fingscheidt, D 2024, 119 min.
With Saoirse Ronan, Paapa Essiedu, Stephen Dillane, Saskia Reeves,
10 YEARS OF WINTER CINEMA - ANNIVERSARY PROGRAMME 30.1.-1.2.2026
The autobiographical film deals with Scottish author Amy Liptrot's recovery from her alcohol addiction. Liptrot's film alter ego Rona returns to her home islands, the Orkney Islands north of the Scottish mainland, straight after rehab after 10 years of a debauched party life in London. There, on her home farm and in a rented cottage, she continues her journey out of addiction through nature and animal observation and intensive self-reflection.
The author has been living without alcohol since 2011 and her memoirs formed the basis for her book NACHTLICHTER. Together with director Fingscheidt (SYSTEMSPRENGER), she developed the screenplay for the film.
"THE OUTRUN" is in many ways an unusual film about alcoholism: aesthetically pleasing, approachable and completely non-judgemental. Alcohol addiction is only one part of an intense portrait of a person." (Jannek Suhr, epd Film)
