Eternally young

A song drama by Erik Gedeon

"I haven't felt this young since I was ... since I was ... ninety-five!" The theatre closed for good many years ago. But a small group of former actors are still there, as the building is now used as a retirement home. The now very old actors regularly take to the stage again and reminisce about past successes and the wild music of their youth. Their rotten bones regain their vigour, wrinkles and thinning hair are no longer an issue, as adrenaline and even a little eroticism buzz through the air. Even the old conflicts and jibes have a revitalising effect. If it weren't for the carer, who keeps reminding the old people of reality with songs to clap along to and musical performances about infirmity and transience. But as soon as she has left the room, the melancholy is swept from the stage and the exuberant show of the former theatre stars continues.

The over 80-year-old Cuban musicians from the "Buena Vista Social Club" have made the whole world dance - and inspired Erik Gedeon to create the musical evening "Thalia Vista Social Club" in 2001. Under the title "Eternally Young", the song drama has been conquering theatre stages for years with its death-defying wit, exuberant joie de vivre and rousing songs. So put an end to your fear of old age, because music keeps you young!
