O be joyful in the Lord
Choral music from England
Whether Renaissance, Baroque, Classical or Modern - English vocal music is among the most important in the world. Composers such as William Byrd, Thomas Tallis and Henry Purcell were role models for their colleagues and also influenced choral music on the European mainland. The chamber choir of the Institute of Church Music and Musicology under the direction of Prof. Frank Dittmer presents a varied programme from four centuries of English choral music, including a cappella works by Thomas Weelkes, Thomas Tallis and Paul Smith. In keeping with the English choral tradition, the programme also includes works for organ (William Peart) and choir with works by Charles Stanford, John Rutter and William Mathias. For fans of English choral music, this should be a special evening at the end of the lecture period.
Admission to the concert is free.
