Do viruses determine our lives?
Lecture by Prof. Dr Dr h.c. mult. Thomas C. Mettenleiter (former President of the Friedrich Loeffler Institute on the island of Riems)
Viruses are the most common form of life on this planet. All living things - including viruses - have viruses. Viruses are at the beginning and are drivers of evolution. Viruses are - especially in the oceans - essential factors in the biological metabolism. This makes them an indispensable part of the biosphere.
However, we mainly experience viruses as pathogens, as triggers of epidemics and pandemics. We are all still very much aware of COVID-19. Are there ways to control or prevent it? What role can vaccinations play in this?
Prof Mettenleiter will talk about the "light" and the "dark" side of the virus and the associated questions on Wednesday, 21 January at 7 pm in the fire station hall in Neuenkirchen, Wampener Straße 8.
Prof. Dr Dr h.c. mult. Mettenleiter was President of the Friedrich Loeffler Institute for Animal Health on the island of Riems for many years.
"Wir-in-17498Neuenkirchen" would like to revive the URANIA tradition with this lecture. In a loose series of lectures, scientific findings are to be made accessible to a wide audience. With URANIA, Wir-in-17498Neuenkirchen would like to invite experts on environmental and future issues in future. We want to discuss what new findings mean for us - and what the consequences are for our actions.
Admission is free, donations for the preservation of the vicarage are welcome.
