The woman who goes first
Cinema in the old fire station
New York painter Catherine Weldon (Jessica Chastain) lost her beloved husband a year ago. To finally put her grief behind her, she travelled to North Dakota in 1889, where she wanted to paint a portrait of the legendary Sioux tribe chief Sitting Bull (Michael Greyeyes). However, with her self-confident and modern attitude and her commitment to the Native Americans, she makes many enemies on the spot, first and foremost Colonel Groves (Sam Rockwell). While Catherine and Sitting Bull gradually become friends, the latter does everything in his power to drive the last remaining Native Americans out of the area. Catherine, who has now been given the Indian name "Woman Goes First", has to decide whether she should support Sitting Bull and his tribesmen in their fight for freedom and independence...
