On the 125th birthday - commemorative plaque for Frida Stundl-Pietschmann
Unveiling of the memorial plaque at her birthplace and place of work at Gützkower Straße 84
Frida Pietschmann was born in Greifswald on 19 January 1901. She grew up in the house at Gützkower Landstraße 84, where she later lived and worked until her death in 1984. In the meantime, she went to Sweden to train as a hand weaver. In 1946, she married Rudolf Stundl, the "inventor" of the Vorpommern fisherman's rugs. Her influence on the fishermen's rugs should not be underestimated. Thanks to her great expertise, the knotting of the fishermen's rugs was expanded to include weaving. She translated the knotting patterns into weaving patterns. She accompanied and supported her husband's work with perseverance. The house at Gützkower Straße 84 is the Pietschmanns' family home, into which Rudolf Stundl was able to move after his marriage. The production and distribution of carpets and weaving were centrally coordinated here. Reason enough to honour Frida Stundl-Pietschmann with a memorial plaque at this house after Rudolf Stundl!
