Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: ELIAS
New Year's Concert 2026 by Greifswald University Music together with soloists and ensembles from Berlin and Munich
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's oratorio Elijah op. 70 MWVA 25, which focuses on the biblical story of the Old Testament prophet, is considered the main work of its author alongside its sister composition Paulus op. 36 MWV A 14, composed almost ten years earlier, which concentrates on a New Testament subject. Elijah is also considered the most important work of the genre in the 19th century.
