»Zeltwort«. Die flüchtige Gegenwart des Gedichts

Fellow Lecture by Privatdozentin Dr. Yvonne Al-Taie (Fellow of the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald / Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel)

In contemporary poetry, the poem is repeatedly compared to a tent. This image creates the idea of a sense of security that can be taken from place to place; it imagines an attitude to the world that remains open to the sensual perception of the surroundings, and with the tent canvas that is inserted between the person and their surroundings like a filter, it refers to a medium that transforms this perception. This outlines three aspects with which contemporary poems react to the transformation processes that social science theory describes as characteristic of late modernity. The lecture aims to show how poetry expresses this experience of a rapidly changing world in social, economic, ecological and cultural terms.

Yvonne Al-Taie is a private lecturer and former academic councillor at the Institute for Modern German Literature and Media at Kiel University. She studied art history, modern German literature and systematic theology at Saarland University and Trinity College Dublin and received her doctorate from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2012 with a thesis on language and image theory in early German Romanticism. She was a visiting professor at the CEUS | Cluster for European Studies at Saarland University and held fellowships at Yale University, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the University of Bern. In the academic year 2025/26, Yvonne Al-Taie is a Junior Fellow at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald.
