Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebasitan Bach in a performance for children in St. Nikolai Cathedral Greifswald
Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio is one of the most famous settings of the Christmas story. In a performance for children on December 20, 2025, 3 pm, the music is told as a story. A narrator explains how Bach composed the jubilation of the Christmas angels. We accompany him to the manger in Bethlehem and hear how the shepherds hurry to the Christ Child. Instruments are also introduced. Timpani and trumpets, flutes and strings, played by the Greifswald Bach Week Orchestra: all the instruments take on a specific role, just as different parts are played in a nativity play. KITA and primary school children with their parents and grandparents are cordially invited to this exciting tour through the Christmas Oratorio. This special performance lasts approx. 45 minutes. Admission is free for children. Adults can purchase tickets for 15 euros. Tickets are available in advance from the Institute for Church Music and the Scharfe bookshop, as well as at the box office before the concert.
