Musiknacht „Very British"

This year's music night "Very British" on November 7 at 8 p.m. in Greifswald's St. Nikolai Cathedral provides exciting insights into instrumental and choral music from Great Britain.

The program spans 500 years, in which fans of great orchestral music as well as chamber and choral music can discover popular and perhaps never-before-heard pieces. The University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by UMD Harald Braun, will open the music night with Pomp and Circumstances and "Nimrod" from Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations. This is likely to be the most recognizable piece for all listeners. However, the spotlight immediately turns to a chamber music setting for viola and piano, with works by Rebecca Clarke and York Bowen, both composer and composer, who, born in the 19th century, found the roots of their compositional style in the 20th century. Their works will be interpreted by Yuta Nishiyama, Ayano Kamei and Paweł Motyczyński. Edward Elgar's G major Organ Sonata, a veritable four-movement organ symphony, will be authentically interpreted by a British composer. William Peart has been working as a lecturer at the Institute for Church Music and Musicology since the winter semester just started and introduces himself to a larger audience with this program contribution. The Chamber Choir of the Institute of Church Music and Musicology, conducted by Frank Dittmer, will perform some special gems from the vast spectrum of English choral music, including motets by Thomas Weelkes, John Villiers Stanford and John Rutter. The artistic direction of the evening is in the hands of Prof. Frank Dittmer.
