KONIK STUDIO – Magic Serpent
Kulturschaufenster, Lutherstr. 20, 17489 Greifswald
"Magic Serpent" is a site-specific, large-format light installation by Konik Studio (Paweł Kleszczewski & Katarzyna Zimnoch). The work takes up the ancient motif of the ouroboros - the snake that bites its own tail - and reinterprets it as a symbol of cyclical time, change and the contradictions of human civilization. Konik Studio's method combines elements of different worlds, techniques and visual languages. The artist duo is interested in both the present and the layers of the past. Magic Serpent is a changeable project that adapts to different architectural spaces. Its transparent, ephemeral form reacts to the specific characteristics of the exhibition venue and makes the architecture itself part of the artwork. With form, sound and narrative, the installation opens up an intermediate space - between myth and machine, eternity and transience.
The KONIK film studio is run by the artist duo Katarzyna Zimnoch and Paweł Kleszczewski. Their work is in the field of visual arts, new media, painting and animated film. They are present both in gallery spaces and at film festivals. Katarzyna Zimnoch and Paweł Kleszczewski come from Szczecin and studied together at the Faculty of Art at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. In 2012, they traveled to Cavan in Ireland for a summer stay - and stayed there for six years. During this time, they founded the Konik Studio. Since 2018, they have been living in Szczecin again, where their current studio is located in the Dąbie district.
