Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (STRAZEkino)
Silent movie with live music accompaniment by Long Shutter Noise Reduction (HRO).
Feature film / DE 1919 / Director: Robert Wiene / 55 min. / FSK12
The silent film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" from 1919 is about a tyrannical character who uses a somnambulist as a blind tool. When they both arrive in a small town, a series of murders begins.
As they try to solve it, the boundary between reality and delusion dissolves.
Robert Wiene gave the film a unique aesthetic, perfectly adapted to the plot. Without compromise, he had all the sets, props, costumes and even the font of the intertitles designed to match. This first thriller in world history still casts its oppressive spell today.
The duo LONG SHUTTER NOISE REDUCTION (https://long-shutter-noise-reduction.bandcamp.com/) plays live together with silent films and uses modern technical means to create soundscapes to match the images. They combine styles such as drone, ambient and doom with improvised and experimental music. The film takes on the role of conductor during the performances.
